In language testing there are two general types of tests. There are Objective tests and Subjective test.
1. Definition of Objective test
The objective test is an easy and short test carried out in various forms of tests such as multiple choice, true false, matching items and other. Students can easily provide answers so that the answers on the objective test are certain or only have one possible answer.
2. Definition of Subjective test
Subjective test is a test that is carried out if the results given by students cannot be assessed objectively. Subjective tests are usually carried out in the form of long answers and have a variety of answers that have a wide enough scope so that the answers on subjective test students can provide answers according to the knowledge possessed by students and use their own way.
3. Characteristics of objective test
- The usual form of the test is easy to answer and has a short answer
- Has a definite answer or usually only has one answer
- The results of tests that have been done by students are easy to judge even by a computer
- The form of the test is in the form of multiple choice, stuffing, matchmaking tests and others.
4. Characteristics of subjective tests
- This test usually has multiple answers in one question
- The form of the test is in the form of an essay test, a sentence completion test, a test with questions using question marks, and a test with short answer questions
- Does not have answer options such as multiple choice
- Students' answers must be corrected by the teacher concerned and cannot be corrected by a computer because of the variability of the answers of each student itself, making it difficult to use a computer.
5. Type of objective test question
- Multiple choice test
- True false test
- Matching item
- Assertion Reason
6. Type of Subjective test question
- Essay
- Short answers
- Definition
- Opinion question
- Scenario question
7. The Difference Between the Subjective test and Objective test
The differences between the objective test and Subjective test lies in the results of the answers given by different students, in the objective test the answers given are definite answers or only fixated on one answer and are usually in a compact and short form, while in the subjective test the answers are given by students tend to vary in one question according to the knowledge of each student. Another difference lies in the way of assessment, the objective assessment only focuses on definite answers, while the subjective assessment involves the personal assessment of the examiner.
